Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about MAKI GAMI, Makigami vs VSM, metrics, teamwork, AI analysis, licensing, setup and language.
What is MAKI GAMI?+
MAKI GAMI is a process mapping application that runs the Makigami method (Japanese for 'paper roll') in the browser: it maps office and administrative processes step by step on a swimlane grid, records each step's document, time, problem and idea, calculates the metrics and lets the team work together.
How does Makigami differ from value stream mapping (VSM)?+
VSM focuses on material and information flow in production; Makigami on the flow of documents, information and approvals in the office. Makigami is more detailed and step by step, making handoffs, waiting and paperwork visible with swimlanes. The two complement each other.
Which metrics does it calculate?+
Number of steps and lanes, number of handoffs, total processing and waiting time, lead time (processing + waiting) and process cycle efficiency (PCE = processing ÷ lead time). Times can be entered in minutes, hours or days; 1 working day counts as 8 hours.
How does the team work at the same time?+
Participants open the same study on their own devices and enter their names. A card someone adds, edits or moves appears on the other screens within seconds, with a short note of who changed what. While you edit a card, sync waits so nothing you type is lost.
What does the AI analysis do?+
On request, it assesses the current-state map for the 8 office wastes, handoffs, waiting and PCE: an overall assessment, bottlenecks, waste findings, improvement recommendations, quick wins and a PCE target. It never runs on its own; the final decision is your team's.
Which license models are available? What are the prices?+
Monthly subscription, annual subscription, purchase (perpetual license) and a project license for Grupas projects. Pricing depends on the license model and the number of users — contact us through the demo / quote form.
Does it need installation?+
No. MAKI GAMI runs in the browser; a separate environment and a separate database are prepared by Grupas for each customer.
What language is the application in?+
The MAKI GAMI interface and guide are in Turkish. This website is in four languages; let's discuss your need for another language in the demo call.
Can it be used in training?+
Yes. A ready-made sample process loads in one click; the guide explains the method, the 8 office wastes and the workshop steps. Grupas provides training and consulting on lean office and process improvement, and MAKI GAMI users are trained on the application.
How can I get a demo?+
Fill in the demo / quote form; we will get back to you and schedule a live walkthrough with sample data.
